Below are the different curriculum for the sessions. The campers are not limited to these things and will learn a lot more but these are just an example of things they will learn. The curriculum may change from camp to camp depending on the individuals.

Beginner Curriculum

Campers will learn:

· The parts of the saddle
· The parts of the bridle
· Five major parts of the horse
· Three riding aids
· Basic grooming equipment used on a horse
· The five basic coat colors
· How to tell when a horse is adequately “cooled out”

Campers will be able to demonstrate:

· The proper way to approach a stabled horse
· How to groom and tack up, including picking up and cleaning hooves
· The correct way to lead a horse
· Mounting and dismounting techniques
· Walking, posting trot, and halting
· Riding a figure 8
· Mucking out a stall
· Haltering and unhaltering
· How to properly turn out a horse
· And lots more!

Intermediate Curriculum

Campers will learn:

· The basic difference between good and poor conformation
· Basic horse rations
· Inoculations that horses must have annually
· How to take a horse’s temperature
· The difference between a stallion, gelding, mare, colt, filly, and foal
· Two major parasites affecting horses and how to prevent them
· The step sequence for the walk, trot, canter, and gallop
· The aids used to ask a horse for the right and left leads

Campers will be able to demonstrate:

· Bathing a horse
· How to disassemble, clean, and reassemble a saddle and bridle
· First aid for minor horse cuts
· Taking a horse’s temperature
· How to give and accept a leg up
· Riding a figure 8
· Posting at the trot and cantering on the correct lead
· Riding safely on the trail
· Posting to the trot without stirrups
· Blanketing and unblanketing a horse
· Basic patterns for speed events

Advanced Curriculum

Campers will learn:

· Ten parts of the horse’s musculoskeletal system
· About floating teeth
· The gestation period of a mare
· How many teeth male and female horses have
· How to measure a horse in hands
· Breeds and colors of horses
· The official birthday of registered horses
· To identify a splint, a wind puff, and a bowed tendon
· The initial treatment for colic
· The amount of water horses require daily
· First aid for common injuries and illnesses
· And much more

Campers will be able to demonstrate:

· Fitting a bridle and saddle
· Proper judging of horse conformation
· Longeing a horse
· Riding bareback at walk, trot, and canter
· Riding a simple jump course
· Jumping bareback
· Running a correct barrel pattern
· Running a correct pole pattern
· How to goat tie
· How to run the flag pattern
· How to correctly track cattleHow to throw a rope correctly

Things To Bring To Camp

· Jeans

· Boots

· Sack Lunch-refrigerator is available

· Water Bottle with camper’s name on it

· Pony tail holder for girls—hair must be up out of face

. Creek clothes and appropriate shoes

Optional:

. Certified riding helmet (highly recommended)
· Sunscreen
· Hat
· Snacks
· Shorts for unmounted time
· Lunch money if not bringing sack lunch ($5)

Safety Rules

· No running or yelling around the horses
· No eating, drinking, or chewing gum while riding
· No jewelry is to be worn
· Boots and jeans must be worn whenever mounted
· Horses are never to be left with bridles on when not being ridden
· Campers must latch all gates back that they open
· Notify instructor immediately of any injury to horse, rider, or equipment
· Always notify instructor of an early arrival or late departure
· No camper is to leave the immediate premises, ever, unless supervised
